Apostle James Herron, Sr. A lifelong resident of Jersey City, N.J. the oldest of ten siblings is the son of the late Eugene and Melissa Herron. He was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost in his early teens under the ministry of Bishop Grady Dale Sr., pastor of the Cornerstone Church of Christ in Jersey City, NJ.
In 1966, he joined the Air Force and served four years. After returning from the Air Force, he joined the Good Shepherd Church of Christ under the leadership of the late District Elder Walter Meadows. There he served as the church’s first youth president. He was ordained as a deacon on July 29, 1979.
Heeding the call to ministry, he preached his first sermon on January 26, 1984, and was ordained as an Elder on July 14, 1988, in Washington DC under the leadership of the Presiding Prelate Apostle Smallwood E. Williams. He was installed by his pastor on February 18, 1989, as the Assistant Pastor of the Good Shepherd Church of Christ.

Under his leadership as pastor, the members were blessed to pay off the church in full earlier than expected and celebrated with an official “Mortgage Burning” Service on January 30, 1999. During his tenure as pastor, the Lord called many to various ministries and many to the pastoral ministry.
On June 13, 2021, Bishop Herron moved to Senior Pastor and installed his son Elder James Herron Jr. as pastor of the Good Shepherd Church of Christ.
He holds a B.S. degree in Accounting from Rutgers University; his Theology Scholars are Ph.D. in Religious Education from Lighthouse Christian College, Beebe, Arkansas and Th.D. from United Bible College and Seminary, Orlando, Florida. He was the Founder and Dean of the Good Shepherd Bible Institute.
He retired from Schindler (previously Westinghouse) Elevator Corporation after 45 years. During such time, he held various positions in Accounting and Marketing.
He is a member of the Executive Board of Bishops of the International Bible Way Church of Jesus Christ Inc. He was elected and served on the General Board of Bishops. He was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the United Men’s Department from 2003 to 2006. He served as the National Examiner for the New Jersey Diocese from 2003 to 2007. Then he was appointed to serve as the Chairman of the National Board of Examiners from 2007 to 2018. From 2009 to 2010, he served as the Assistant General Treasurer. In March 2010, he was appointed by Apostle Franklin C. Showell, to be the Director of Finance. In this capacity, he served from 2010 to July 2022. He also served as Chairman of the Budget Committee from 2018 to 2022.
Under the leadership of Apostle Franklin Pettiford, He was appointed and served for many years as the Youth President for the New Jersey and Jamaica, West Indies Diocese now known as New Jersey Diocese. He was elevated to the position of District Elder on July 22, 1998, in Richmond, VA. Later, he was consecrated as Bishop on July 7, 2001, in Akron, Ohio under the leadership of Apostle Lawrence G Campbell.
He was appointed and served as District Bishop for the Central New Jersey District of the New Jersey Diocese. On October 6, 2017, the late Apostle Franklin Pettiford installed him as the Diocesan of the New Jersey Diocese.
In March 2022, he was elected to be 2nd Vice Presider. On July 8, 2022, during the 65th Annual Holy Convocation of International Bible Way Church of Jesus Christ, he was dually consecrated and installed as Apostle and 2nd Vice Presiding Bishop of International Bible Way.
Bishop James Herron Sr. has been married to the lovely Callie Herron for fifty-two (52) years. They are blessed with three sons, James Jr., Tyrone and Romel, two daughters in law and seven beautiful grandchildren.
He is a Holy Ghost filled apostolic preacher who humbly serves the Lord and has love for God’s people.
